Blackpool Council has launched a new technology initiative to provide secondary pupils with advanced skills in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cyber security. The programme, announced on 14 April 2026, aims to support thousands of local students across the county through the Lancashire-wide MEGA Hub network.

Known as the Motivated, Educated Generation with Ambition Hub, or MEGA Hub, the project is designed to prepare young people for future careers in technology. The initiative is being developed by IN4 Group and is funded by Blackpool Council, Lancashire County Council, Blackburn with Darwen Council, and the National Cyber Force.

The programme offers practical support for older students through scholarships, including a £1,000 bursary, mentorship, industry placements, and training in workplace skills for those in year 12 and 13.

The curriculum is supported by a range of industry partners, including IBM, KPMG UK, Northrop Grumman, CGI, QinetiQ, Energus, Roke, and BT. The initiative has also received backing from the National Cyber Security Centre and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology.

This effort coincides with a wider regional focus on cyber skills, linked to the construction of a new National Cyber Force headquarters in Samlesbury. That facility is expected to create approximately 2,000 jobs by 2030. Additionally, Blackpool and The Fylde College was selected on the same day as one of five new Defence Technical Excellence Colleges as part of a national investment programme.

These developments align with Blackpool’s broader digital goals, which include a £60 million investment from CityFibre to improve local internet infrastructure.
