The UK’s largest touring soapbox derby, Krazy Races, is coming to Telford for the first time on Sunday 12 July 2026. The free, family-friendly event will be held in the Southwater area of Telford Town Park, bringing a day of downhill racing and entertainment to the community in partnership with Telford & Wrekin Council.
The event features teams from local businesses, schools, and community groups racing handcrafted soapboxes down a course filled with ramps, obstacles, and chicanes. So far, 35 teams have signed up to participate, and event organisers are calling for additional groups to register before all 40 available spots are filled. The Telford Centre will provide the trophies for seven team awards, while Kwik Fit has been named the official Pit Area Sponsor, allowing spectators to view the karts and meet the teams up close.
Beyond the races, the event will include an event village with food, drink, live performances, and family activities. This year’s derby will support the Lingen Davies Cancer Support as the headline charity partner. The organisation is currently running the Sunflower Appeal, a £5 million fundraising campaign to build a new cancer treatment centre at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford, which is expected to open in 2029. To support this goal, the council has pledged £250,000 in match funding.
Danny Scoffin, Head of Brand and Strategic Development for Krazy Races, noted that bringing the event to Telford is a significant milestone as he grew up in the area. Since the derby launched in 2019, it has drawn more than 250,000 visitors across the country and raised over £200,000 for various charities. Councillor Angela McClements, the council’s Cabinet Member for Leisure, Tourism, Culture and the Arts, is involved in overseeing this new addition to the local events programme.
