Bus passengers in Poole should prepare for travel changes this month as roadworks in the area lead to several route diversions. Local operator morebus has announced that road improvements on Sandbanks Road and maintenance on Poole Bridge will require buses to follow alternative paths.

On Friday 17 April 2026, Sandbanks Road in Lilliput will close for surfacing works managed by BCP Council. This closure will affect Harbour Breezer 60 and route 20 services, with buses diverting between the civic centre and Conifer Avenue or Pottery Road.

Following this, Poole Bridge will be closed to all traffic, including cyclists and pedestrians, from 09:30 on 27 April until 18:00 on 1 May 2026. The closure is required for routine maintenance, including resurfacing and waterproofing the bridge approach. The council noted that these waterproofing tasks are dependent on dry weather and may be affected by rain. During this five-day period, bus routes 8, 9, 60, 448 and 940 will divert via the Twin Sails Bridge, which remains open for use.

Passengers should be aware that routes 8 and 9 will not serve Carters Quay or Ivor Road until after 19:00 each day during the bridge maintenance. Additionally, routes 60, 448 and 940 will loop via Norton Way. Meanwhile, the seasonal closure of Lower Poole High Street and The Quay to motor vehicles from 10:00 to 22:00, remains in effect until 31 October 2026, causing Route ONE to continue its diversion via Strand Street to reach the east end of The Quay and the Poole Quay Hotel. Residents are encouraged to check for revised stops and allow extra time for their journeys.
