Roadworks in the York area are set to disrupt travel for local commuters starting next week as highway maintenance gets underway on Murton Way and Osbaldwick Village. Between 23 April and 1 May 2026, both roads will be closed to general traffic daily from 08:00 to 17:00.

The closures are part of an expanded £16.5 million highways maintenance programme announced by the City of York Council. This project represents a 50 per cent increase in spending compared to the previous year, with specific funding allocated for carriageway renewals, including £212,696 for Murton Way and £14,286 for Osbaldwick Village.

These maintenance works will cause diversions for several First Bus York routes. Services 11, 8, 10, 10L, and U1 will be subject to changes during the day, while Service 6 has a suggested diversion via Tang Hall Lane and Hull Road to reach Field Lane. While most traffic will be redirected via Osbaldwick Link Road, Hull Road, Tang Hall Lane, and Osbaldwick Lane, the council has confirmed that access for residents and emergency services will be maintained throughout the closure periods. Additionally, Service 20 buses carrying school children will be permitted to travel through the area.

Passengers planning to travel to these parts of eastern York during the day are encouraged to check for the latest service information and allow extra time for their journeys. The programme is supported by funding from both the local council and the York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority.
