A 21-year-old man from Colchester has been charged with attempted murder following a serious assault in Stanway that left the victim with severe injuries. Joseph Knox, of Hyena Drive, appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on 17 April 2026.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, remains in hospital after the incident, which occurred on 14 April 2026. This violent event has drawn attention in the local community, where crime rates are typically about 10 percent lower than the Essex Police area average.

Officers are continuing their investigation, known as Operation Elk, and are asking for the public’s help to track a black MG car. Investigators believe the vehicle, which has the registration plate LJ75OZY, was in the Stanway area between 6:15 am and 7:00 am on 14 April.

The police are urging anyone who may have dashcam, doorbell, or CCTV footage of the car from that time to get in touch. Information can be provided through the police online reporting portal, by calling 101, or by contacting the independent charity CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
