The city of Colchester will host a civic celebration this Sunday, 26 April 2026, as the annual Scouts St George’s Day Parade makes its way through the city centre. The event, which brings together hundreds of local young people, is expected to draw residents to the streets to mark the occasion.

The parade is organised by the Colchester North District and Colchester Estuary District scout groups. It will feature participants from a wide range of age groups, including Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, and Explorers, all marching to celebrate their achievements over the past year.

The Mayor of Colchester, Councillor Mike Lilley, accompanied by the Mayoress, Alderman Lyn Barton, will attend the event. The Mayor is expected to take the salute at the Town Hall as the uniformed youth groups march from the city centre towards Castle Park.

According to Colchester City Council, the parade will take place between 2pm and 3pm. To accommodate the procession, several roads and areas will be closed to traffic during this time, including St Botolph’s Street, Osbourne Street, St Johns Street, Head Street, High Street, Cowdray Crescent, and the Britannia Car Park.

Colchester, widely recognised as Britain’s oldest recorded town, maintains a strong tradition of hosting such civic events. Residents are invited to attend and support the young people as they move through the city.
