The Essex Library Service has significantly expanded the events programme at Clacton Library in Clacton-on-Sea, with the venue now offering even more activities for the local community.

Families and residents can now access a much wider variety of programming at the facility, which is located on Station Road opposite the Town Hall. The new additions include storytelling sessions featuring characters such as the Gruffalo, baby and toddler rhymetime, mindfulness art, and May half-term crafts. These join an existing lineup of regular weekly sessions, including a chess club on Fridays from 2pm to 3.30pm, knit and natter groups on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 12noon, and a scrabble club on Tuesdays between 2pm and 4pm.

The library is also introducing seated exercise and yoga sessions specifically aimed at older residents to help improve strength, flexibility, and mobility. These health-focused classes are provided free of charge through funding from Active Essex and the London Marathon Foundation, following the success of the RideLondon-Essex 2023 event.

Beyond its events, the library continues to provide essential services such as public computers, printing, and WiFi, along with Barclays Local banking and Citizens Advice appointments. The library is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9am to 5.30pm, Wednesday from 9am to 7pm, and Saturday from 9am to 5pm.

This expansion comes as Essex County Council moves forward with plans for a multi-million pound redevelopment of the site. As part of a larger town centre regeneration project, the future facility is expected to house a new Adult Community Learning centre and a University of Essex Centre for Coastal Communities.
