Families in Carlton are set to benefit from a major upgrade to the play area at Onchan Park, thanks to £100,000 in newly secured funding. Gedling Borough Council announced that the money, provided by the FCC Communities Foundation, will be used to create an inclusive and modern space for local children.
The project is the result of a partnership between the council and the Friends of Onchan Park, a community group that carried out extensive surveys with residents to help secure the grant. The new play space is being designed to be accessible to children of all abilities, including those with special educational needs and disabilities, to ensure everyone can enjoy the park.
Located at the top of Oakdale Road, between Onchan Avenue, Onchan Drive, and Greenhill Road, the park has seen steady improvements over the last few years. In 2021, the site received a £58,000 investment for a multi-use games area and table tennis tables, also supported by the foundation.
Work on the latest set of improvements is expected to begin in October 2026, with the project set for completion by the winter of 2026.
