Dorset Police are asking for the public’s help to identify a man following an assault on a taxi driver in Bournemouth on 8 April 2026. The incident took place at approximately 5:30pm on Westover Road, a busy taxi rank location in the town centre.

The driver reportedly picked up a group of passengers when one individual began repeatedly shaking the driver’s seat. After the driver pulled over to ask the group to leave the vehicle, the male offender punched him in the side of the face and shouted abuse. Police Constable Jack Tweed of Bournemouth Police, who is leading the investigation, described the event as an unprovoked attack on a person simply trying to do their job.

Authorities have released an image of a man they wish to identify in connection with the assault, which is recorded under occurrence number 55260049737. Taxi driving is recognised as a high-risk profession for workplace violence, particularly when drivers are working at night or transporting intoxicated passengers.

Anyone with information regarding the identity of the man in the image is encouraged to contact Dorset Police online or by calling 101. Information can also be provided anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111.
