A new monthly market is coming to Swadlincote High Street, offering residents a fresh selection of vintage goods, food, arts, and crafts. Launched by South Derbyshire District Council, the event will take place on the first Saturday of each month from May through October 2026.
The market is set to begin on Saturday, 2 May 2026, running from 9am until 2pm. Following the inaugural event, the market will return on 6 June, 4 July, 1 August, 5 September, and 3 October. Visitors can enjoy free entry to the event, and free parking is available nearby for those travelling into the town centre.
Local traders, artists, and food vendors interested in taking part can book a standard pitch, which includes one gazebo and one table, for £26.50. Market Manager Simon Wardle is coordinating the bookings and can be reached by phone at 07784 033414 or via email at [email protected]. Traders should note that setup begins at 6am, and all vehicles must be off-site by 8:30am.
This initiative is part of broader efforts by the council to support the town centre. The council has also appointed consultants BDP to lead a new masterplan for the area and has gained approval for the renovation of the former market hall on Midland Road. These projects follow community feedback calling for improvements to the town centre environment and increased activity to encourage more visitors to the high street.
