Basingstoke will mark the return of Basingstoke Green Week from 6 to 14 June 2026, offering residents nine days of free activities aimed at promoting local action on climate change and nature conservation.
Now in its 14th year, the event is organised by community groups and organisations, with additional coordination and promotion support provided by Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council. The week-long celebration coincides with the national Great Big Green Week, a movement coordinated by The Climate Coalition that is expected to engage over a million people across the country.
The local programme features a variety of activities for residents, including live performances from local musicians and artists, alongside markets offering organic and locally-sourced produce. In addition, the council’s ranger team will host free workshops focused on local wildlife, supported by the work of Natural Basingstoke, which represents numerous community conservation groups across the area.
This event reflects the council’s ongoing efforts to address environmental concerns following its declaration of a climate emergency in 2019 and an ecological emergency in 2021. To support these goals, the council has established a Biodiversity Strategy for 2023-2029 and set targets to become a net zero carbon borough by 2030.
Residents who are interested in participating in the week or setting up their own community events are encouraged to contact the council’s Climate Change team for further information.
