Emergency crews were called to Clacton Airfield on Saturday 25 April 2026 after a light aircraft crashed at the site. The incident, which involved a two-seater plane, prompted a rapid response from local emergency services.

Firefighters from Essex County Fire and Rescue Service stations in Clacton, Weeley, and Colchester arrived at the scene shortly after being called at 12.09pm. Upon arrival, crews found smoke emerging from the aircraft and a fuel leak, though there were no flames. The firefighters worked to make the area safe by stopping the fuel from leaking. No one was trapped in the wreckage.

The two occupants of the plane were treated by ambulance crews for minor, non-life-threatening injuries. The airfield, located about two miles west of Clacton-on-Sea, is operated by the Clacton Aero Club and is primarily used for flight training and recreational flying.

Further enquiries into the cause of the crash will be led by the Air Accidents Investigation Branch. Essex Police also attended the scene to assist in the initial response.
