Folkestone Rugby Club is inviting the local community to its New Burlington Ground for its first Annual Celebration Day. Announced by club official Christian Sangiuseppe, the event aims to bring together players, members, and supporters to mark a new tradition for the long-standing Kent organisation.

The club, which is based in Newington, has been a central part of the local sporting scene since its founding in the 1973/74 season by Andy Hickmott, Bob Hickmott, Derek Searle, and Alan Frew. It currently operates three senior men’s teams, a ladies team, and an extensive youth section that supports players from age six through to the Under 18 Colts.

As the club prepares for this inaugural celebration, it remains active in regional competition, with the 1st XV currently sitting in third position in the Counties 2 Kent league. The organisation, which was incorporated in 2011 and is a registered charity, continues to serve as a hub for local rugby, supported by partners such as Motis Ireland Ltd, AW Rail Services, Mapps Estates, and Bang & Olufsen of Canterbury.

Residents interested in learning more about the club or exploring opportunities to get involved in the sport are encouraged to attend the upcoming festivities at the Folkestone Rugby Club grounds. The club continues its legacy of developing talent, having produced notable players including former England Women’s captain Catherine Spencer, former head coach Toby Booth, and Saracens player Tom Johnson.
