Basildon Council is asking residents to share their experiences of anti-social behaviour to help create a new policy for the borough. The public consultation, which is currently open, invites community members to provide feedback on issues such as vandalism, noise nuisance, and intimidation to help shape how local authorities respond to these problems in the future.
Residents can participate in the online survey until 8 June 2026, or they can submit their comments by email to [email protected]. The council states that the updated policy will focus on early intervention, supporting victims, and using proportionate enforcement to address disruptive behaviour, in line with requirements under the Housing Act 1996.
This work is supported by the Safer Basildon Hub, a partnership where local agencies including Essex Police, Essex County Council, Essex Fire and Rescue, the Probation Service, and the NHS collaborate to manage complex cases. The council has been active in enforcement recently, recording 377 actions in the year leading up to October 2025, which marked a 69.8% increase over the previous year. These measures have included formal warning letters, injunctions, and closure orders for properties involved in persistent criminal activity and nuisance, such as cases seen in the Laindon Park and Nethermayne wards in December 2025.
Following a recent assessment by the Regulator of Social Housing, which identified serious failings in housing services, the council has committed to strengthening its response to community safety. As part of this improvement plan, the authority is increasing the number of specialist anti-social behaviour officers to improve how these cases are managed across the borough.
