Dorset Police are investigating a serious assault that left a 19-year-old man in critical condition after he was attacked outside Barbara’s Bier Haus on Old Christchurch Road in Bournemouth at 12:30am on Tuesday 28 April 2026. The victim is currently receiving hospital treatment and his family has been informed of the incident.

Detective Inspector Ian Allen, who is leading the investigation, stated that officers are currently reviewing CCTV footage and conducting urgent enquiries to identify those involved. A cordon was established at the scene to allow for a thorough examination, and residents should expect an increased police presence in the area as the investigation continues.

Representatives from the venue have confirmed that they are supporting the police with the investigation and have provided their own CCTV footage. The bar stated that the incident did not originate within their premises and that those involved had not been inside the venue prior to the assault.

This incident follows other reports of violence on this stretch of road, which has a documented history of high crime rates. There were two previous assaults reported outside the same venue earlier this year, including an incident on 11 April 2026 where two men were injured, and another on 18 January 2026 involving a man being punched in the face.

Anyone with information regarding the incident on 28 April 2026 is asked to contact Dorset Police, quoting occurrence number 55260060385. Information can also be provided anonymously by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers.
