Middlesbrough residents can expect a short, warm spell this week before conditions turn cooler and unsettled for the bank holiday weekend, according to the Met Office.

Temperatures in the town are set to reach 23°C on Friday 1 May. This is significantly warmer than the typical April average of 11°C to 12°C for the area. While Friday will see sunny skies, the day is expected to end with a 40 per cent chance of rain by 9pm.

Those planning outdoor activities should be aware that pollen levels in North East England are currently moderate and are expected to rise to high levels on Friday. The weather will become more unsettled as the bank holiday weekend begins.
