Norwich North has recorded its highest monthly crime total in over a year, with 438 offences reported during March 2026. This figure marks a 26 per cent increase from the 348 crimes recorded in February, according to data from Norfolk Constabulary.

The latest statistics show that March 2026 accounts for 10 per cent of the total crimes for the year, the highest proportion for any single month in the previous 12-month period. Among the most frequent reports were violence and sexual offences, which rose by 13 per cent to 173 incidents. Additionally, there were 70 cases of anti-social behaviour, representing a 17 per cent increase, while criminal damage and arson incidents grew by 9 per cent to 35 cases.

Shoplifting saw the most significant rise in the area, climbing 50 per cent from 30 incidents in February to 45 in March. This local trend mirrors broader national challenges, where retail violence and abuse have surged by more than 50 per cent, now exceeding 2,000 incidents daily across England and Wales.

To combat retail-related offences, the Norwich Business Improvement District operates the ALERT scheme. This partnership connects 184 local businesses with a reporting platform to share real-time intelligence with the police. Despite these efforts, authorities continue to monitor the impact of crime on the community, where the annual crime rate in the wider Norwich area currently stands at 33.2 crimes per 1,000 people.
