Families in Slough can now access a wider range of integrated support services following the official opening of the new Best Start Family Hubs this week. Mayor Cllr Siobhan Dauti launched the initiative on 27 April 2026, marking the transformation of existing centres into hubs designed to provide a one-stop shop for parents, carers, and children.

The new hubs are located at Chalvey Grove, Penn Road, and Romsey Close. They provide support for families with children aged up to 19, or up to 25 for those with special educational needs and disabilities. Services available at the sites include antenatal programmes, health visiting, play groups, breastfeeding support, and drop-in sessions for housing and benefits advice.

This development follows the 20th anniversary of the town’s children’s centres in 2025. While the three new hubs have been established to provide expanded care, two existing children’s centres will continue to operate at Monksfield Way and Yew Tree Road. The programme is part of a nationwide effort supported by the UK Government, which has invested £900 million over three years to establish family hubs in every council area.

The launch of the service comes during a period of administrative transition for Slough Borough Council, which has been under government financial oversight since 2021. Council Leader Dexter Smith, who has overseen the local authority’s financial recovery, recently announced he will step down from his role in May 2026.
