New data from Essex Police reveals a sharp increase in violent crime and sexual offences on Canvey Island during March 2026. The number of these reports rose from 89 in February to 134 in March, marking a 51 per cent increase in a single month.

The total number of crimes recorded on the island also saw a significant rise. Overall reports increased by 22 per cent, climbing from 235 incidents in February to 287 in March. This jump includes a rise in anti-social behaviour reports, which grew from 48 to 57 over the same period.

The recent statistics reflect a broader trend across the county. According to data tracked by Plumplot, violent crime across Essex increased by 7.9 per cent year-over-year as of March 2026. Data aggregator CrimeRate notes that Canvey Island remains among the top five most dangerous medium-sized towns in the county, with a current crime rate of 63 offences per 1,000 people.

In response to local concerns, the police continue to hold regular community engagement sessions. Residents are invited to attend the next Let’s Walk & Talk event, which is held outside the Knightswick centre on Furtherwick Road to discuss safety issues with the neighbourhood policing team.
