Aspiring performers in Basingstoke have the chance to take to the stage this winter as Anvil Arts and UK Productions announce ensemble auditions for the upcoming Christmas pantomime, Beauty and the Beast.

The production, which will be held at The Anvil, is set to run from 10 December 2026 to 3 January 2027. Local favourite Chris Pizzey, widely recognised for his role as Mr Stephen in The Basil Brush Show, will star in the show as the character Louis La Plonk. This marks a return to the role for Pizzey, who previously played the character in the venue’s 2021 production of the same story.

Auditions for the ensemble cast are taking place on Thursday 2 July 2026. To be considered, applicants must be aged 16 or over, have completed their GCSEs, and be able to commit to the full rehearsal and performance period running from 26 November 2026 through to 3 January 2027. Additionally, performers must live or have a base within 25 miles of the theatre.

Those interested in auditioning must register by emailing [email protected] no later than Monday 22 June 2026. Candidates are expected to arrive at The Anvil by 4:30 pm on the day of the auditions for a warm-up.
