Bus passengers in Bournemouth will face significant travel changes from Saturday 23 May 2026, as the Gervis Place bus station closes for approximately eight months to undergo a major redevelopment.

The closure is part of a larger project by BCP Council to improve local transport infrastructure. The work will see the reconstruction of the road surface, which has been affected by subsidence, and the introduction of a new priority route for buses. Additionally, the area will feature widened footways with raised kerbs for improved accessibility, new larger shelters equipped with seating, real-time information displays, and CCTV.

More than 25 bus routes managed by Morebus will be affected by the work. During the eight-month period, passengers will need to use alternative temporary stops, primarily located on Westover Road and surrounding streets. For instance, routes m1, m2, N1, and N2 travelling toward Poole will shift to Westover Road Stop 4/AA. Passengers for routes U4, 81, 82, X3, and X6 will use The Arcade Stop 5, while those on route 18 should head to Bourne Avenue Stop G. Routes 17 and 737 will be served by Triangle Stop C/HH.

These upgrades are funded by an £8.9 million grant from the Department for Transport under the Bus Service Improvement Plan. Councillor Andy Hadley, cabinet member with responsibility for sustainable travel, stated that the scheme represents a major investment in making the town centre safer, more accessible, and easier to navigate for all residents.

Passengers are encouraged to check the Morebus website or mobile app for specific details on where to catch their bus while the work is underway.
