The Dukes Theatre in Lancaster is moving its annual Sunset Screenings outdoor cinema season to May, offering residents a series of nine films hosted in the natural setting of Williamson Park. The event will take place from 16 May to 24 May 2026, marking a shift from the theatre’s traditional September schedule to embrace the spring season.

The programme features a variety of cinema favourites, including screenings of Dirty Dancing, Top Gun, and Stand By Me. The season opens on 16 May with a showing of La La Land, which will be preceded by live music from The Luca Brasi Group at 8pm. The event series continues to feature its popular mystery film tradition, with a secret title to be revealed during the screening on Wednesday 20 May.

All screenings will take place at The Dell, a location within Williamson Park known for its natural acoustics and greenery. As the venue is outdoors, organisers advise attendees to check local weather forecasts and dress appropriately, as screenings will go ahead even in wet weather conditions.

The Dukes, which is Lancashire’s only professional building-based producing theatre, is a registered charity supported by Arts Council England, Lancaster City Council, and Lancaster University. Tickets for the nine-day event are available now through the theatre.
