Residents in Luton are invited to take part in upcoming wildlife gardening sessions at the Bushmead Community Hub, aimed at helping local people connect with nature and develop practical conservation skills. The next event will take place on Saturday 30 May 2026, from 10:30am to 12:30pm.

Organised by the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire, these sessions are part of the Wilder Luton project. The initiative is funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund and is designed to bring community members together to maintain a biodiverse garden at the Bushmead Community Hub.

The garden features a variety of wildlife-friendly elements, including a pond, bug hotels, wildflower areas, bird feeders, and plants that attract pollinators. Participants will have the chance to help with general garden maintenance and gain hands-on experience in nature conservation. The sessions are family-friendly, though all children must be accompanied by an adult. While the events are free to attend, spaces are limited and residents must book their place in advance through the organisation’s website. Due to restricted indoor space, sessions may be cancelled in the event of poor weather.

These monthly gatherings take place on the last Saturday of each month between March and November. The current project, which runs until August 2027, continues previous successful gardening work in the community. The programme is supported by partners including Luton Borough Council and the Luton Health and Nature Partnership. Anyone interested in more information or wishing to contact the event organisers can reach out to Ieva Piraga, who coordinates the sessions at the hub.
