The Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is hosting a free online talk on 16 June 2026 to help men in the region speak more openly about their mental health. The event, titled Behind I’m fine – understanding men’s mental health, will take place from 12pm to 1pm over Microsoft Teams and offers practical advice on how to recognise signs of distress and improve conversations around emotional wellbeing.
This initiative arrives as national data highlights a persistent gap in support for men. Currently, one in eight men in England experiences a common mental health problem, such as anxiety or depression. Despite this, only 36% of referrals for NHS psychological therapies are for men. Statistics also show that men account for 74% of all suicide deaths in England, with those aged 45 to 49 being the most at risk.
The session supports the aims of the first-ever national Men’s Health Strategy, which the government introduced in November 2025. That strategy includes a £3.6 million investment specifically aimed at suicide prevention for middle-aged men to address these stark disparities.
Residents interested in the talk can register to become members through the Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust website. Once registered, participants will receive a link to the session directly in their inbox.
