Police and Crime Commissioner Donna Jones has announced that Portsmouth will receive a share of over £611,000 in new funding dedicated to tackling knife crime in the city. The investment, which was confirmed on 5 May 2026, aims to improve local community safety by focusing resources on specific areas where offences remain a concern.

The money is provided through the government’s Knife Crime Concentration Fund and is set to support extra police patrols and targeted interventions across Portsmouth. While the county has seen a 27.3 per cent reduction in knife crime since 2023, officials have identified the city as a priority area for continued action.

These efforts build on existing work by the Violence Reduction Unit, a partnership supported by over £1 million in annual funding. The unit works alongside various organisations to identify and support young people who may be at risk of being drawn into violent crime.
