The Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra is hosting free interactive concerts for primary school children at Lighthouse Poole on Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 May 2026. Designed for Key Stage 2 pupils, the Explore the Orchestra: Sing Out! events aim to get students involved in using their voices alongside professional musicians.
The performances feature award-winning composer James Redwood as presenter, alongside mezzo-soprano Felicity Buckland and conductor Enyi Okpara. The programme includes two interactive pieces, Sing Out! and Habanera Groove, which were created specifically for these concerts in partnership with the SoundStorm Music Education Agency and schools in Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole.
Due to high demand, three of the four sessions have reached capacity. The only remaining opportunity for schools to attend in person is the 1:30pm performance on Wednesday 20 May. For schools unable to visit the venue, a free digital livestream will be available for that final session, with the recording accessible for 30 days following the event.
The concerts are supported by The Skyrme Hart Charitable Trust, Dave & Jan Pointer, Christine & Jim Dipple, and The VEC Acorn Trust.
