Residents, community groups, and local businesses in Welwyn Hatfield are being invited to participate in the upcoming Great Big Green Week, which returns to the borough from Saturday 6 to Sunday 14 June 2026. This marks the third year in a row that Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council has joined the nationwide effort to promote climate action and environmental sustainability.

The 2026 campaign is centred on the theme “Let’s swap together for good,” which encourages the community to exchange items, skills, and ideas to help reduce waste. Organised nationally by The Climate Coalition, the week serves as a platform for local groups to showcase initiatives that contribute to a greener future.

To support this goal, the council is partnering with the Welwyn Garden City Business Improvement District to host a variety of free activities throughout the week. Residents can look forward to a range of events, including a bat walk, a clothes swap, bike sessions, and a “Chats for Change” coffee morning.

Community organisations, including sports clubs, schools, charities, and local businesses, are encouraged to register their own events to be featured in the borough’s official calendar. Registration for events can be completed via the online form available on the council website.

These local efforts support the council’s broader environmental goals, which include a commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions as an organisation by 2030 and across the entire borough by 2050.
