Residents in Sutton Hill will soon see a significant change in their community infrastructure, as Telford & Wrekin Council has announced plans to build a new, purpose-built community hub. The project, which is being developed in partnership with Madeley Town Council, aims to replace the existing Hub on the Hill centre located at 103-106 Southgate.

The council reports that the current building requires significant repairs and that replacing the facility is more cost-effective than attempting to refurbish it. This new development is part of a broader Pride in Place programme, a 30 million pound, ten-year initiative designed to regenerate neighbourhoods across South Telford, including Woodside, Brookside, and Sutton Hill.

The new two-storey facility is expected to open in 2028, a date chosen to coincide with the 60th anniversary of Telford becoming a new town. The project is being jointly funded by the councils, with additional support from the Pride in Place programme.

Initial plans for the ground floor include a central atrium for events, a cafe, a larger hall for sports and leisure activities, a community library, and a dedicated room for youth and education services. Additionally, the council is exploring the possibility of including a neighbourhood health hub on the first floor. If included, this space could be used for local health checks, mobile screenings, vaccinations, and outpatient appointments.

This initiative continues a long history of community engagement in the area. In 2016, when the original community centre faced closure, local residents stepped in to form the Sutton Hill Community Trust to ensure the site remained available for public use.
