Local partners in Southend-on-Sea have united under a government-backed initiative aimed at improving safety and business conditions in the Warrior Square area. The project, known as Clear, Hold, Build, was established following concerns raised by residents regarding anti-social behaviour in Warrior Square.

The initiative, which is supported by the Home Office, brings together a range of public services to tackle offending and address the underlying issues affecting the local community. Key partners involved in the project include Essex Police, Southend-on-Sea City Council, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service, and the local business community as represented by Southend City BID.

Southend City BID, which was formed in 2013, plays an active role in maintaining city safety through its team of four full-time Street Rangers. These rangers work alongside police and council teams to address business crime and anti-social behaviour. The organisation also works within the Southend Community Safety Partnership, a multi-agency group that coordinates efforts to reduce crime and disorder across the area.

In addition to the Clear, Hold, Build project, a separate safety initiative is currently underway to address shoplifting and reoffending linked to drug addiction. This project is supported by over £126,000 in funding, comprised of £101,129 in Local Safer Streets funding and £25,235 in match funding from the council.
