Thames Valley Police and Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service are appealing for information after a 5G mobile phone mast was deliberately set on fire in Oxford. The incident took place near the Eastern Bypass between 11.10pm and 11.35pm on Wednesday, 29 April 2026.

The damaged mast is located near the Rosehill and Littlemore roundabout and Sandy Lane West. No injuries were reported during the blaze, which authorities are treating as arson.

This is the second time in less than two months that a 5G mast has been targeted in the city. A similar arson occurred on 5 March 2026 on the A40 near Cutteslowe Roundabout, where individuals forced entry into the structure’s compartment and used an unidentified liquid to start the fire. That previous incident caused significant traffic disruption in the area.

The investigating officer, Detective Constable Francesca Maurice-Williams of Thames Valley Police, is asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant dash-cam footage to come forward. Members of the public can contact the police by calling 101 or by making a report online, quoting investigation reference number 43260210718.
