Residents in Southend-on-Sea can expect a mild and mostly dry weekend, with Saturday 9 May offering the best conditions for those heading to the seafront. According to the Met Office, Saturday will be a sunny day with highs of 19°C, though those planning early morning trips should be aware that fog may cause poor visibility in the first few hours of the day.

Conditions will change on Sunday 10 May, as the weather becomes cooler with temperatures reaching 15°C. The day is expected to be cloudier with stronger winds reaching speeds of up to 35mph, and there is a 40% chance of rain early in the morning.

While the land may feel warm, the Southend-on-Sea RNLI has issued a reminder that sea temperatures remain below 15°C. This level is cold enough to cause cold water shock, which can significantly affect a person’s ability to breathe and move in the water.

If anyone finds themselves in difficulty, RNLI Water Safety Manager Ross Macleod advises swimmers to remember the Float to Live technique. This involves staying calm, leaning back with ears submerged, and extending arms and legs to float until breathing is controlled and help can be sought.
