Residents in Gateshead should prepare for wet and windy weather this weekend as the Met Office has issued a forecast for heavy rain and strong gusts throughout Saturday, 9 May 2026.

Saturday morning is expected to be the wettest part of the weekend, with a high probability of heavy rain starting at 6:00am. Winds will also be a factor, with gusts reaching up to 29mph during the afternoon. While the daytime high is expected to be 10°C, the combination of wind and humidity will make it feel much cooler, closer to 4°C.

Conditions are expected to change as night falls on Saturday. As cloud cover breaks, temperatures will drop to around 4°C, which may lead to patchy ground frost forming in some areas by Sunday morning.

Sunday, 10 May 2026, will bring a noticeable improvement to the local area. The Met Office indicates that residents can expect drier weather with sunny intervals throughout the day. Winds will ease to around 21mph, and temperatures are expected to reach a high of 11°C.
