Shropshire Council has confirmed that its garden waste collection service has reached its subscription target of 77,000 for the current year, achieving this milestone faster than it did last year. The service, which runs from 1 November 2025 to 31 October 2026, has processed 77,123 subscriptions to date, and officials expect the final number to exceed the previous year’s total of 77,158.

Now in its second year of operation, the service allows residents to have garden waste collected from the kerbside every two weeks. These collections are managed by the council’s waste contractor, Veolia. The current annual cost for the service is £58 per bin.

David Vasmer, the Shropshire Council cabinet member with responsibility for waste management, noted that the target was met earlier than in the previous cycle. The council continues to encourage residents who have not yet signed up to consider the service, particularly as the region moves into the peak gardening season.

Residents interested in the service can arrange their subscription through the Shropshire Council website. Those who choose not to subscribe still have the option of taking their garden waste to local household recycling centres or managing it through home composting.
