Rickmansworth School in Hertfordshire, announced on 5th May 2026 that it had earned a Very Good Travel Plan accreditation, the highest status the school has ever achieved. This recognition comes through the national Modeshift STARS scheme, which provides a framework for schools to promote walking, cycling, and more sustainable travel options for students and staff.

The accreditation is managed locally by Hertfordshire County Council’s Active and Safer Travel Team. By participating in the scheme, the school aims to reduce the number of car journeys during the school day, which helps to lower traffic and improve local air quality for the surrounding community.

This achievement is part of a broader commitment to environmental sustainability at the school. Under the leadership of Headteacher Matthew Fletcher, the school has also earned the Eco-Schools Green Flag award three times since 2022, most recently receiving the honour with distinction in June 2024. These efforts contribute to the school’s ongoing community involvement and environmental impact.

The school, which is a partially-selective comprehensive academy, has been recognised for excellence in several other areas recently. It received an Outstanding rating from Ofsted in September 2023 and has been shortlisted for the Tes Schools Awards for five consecutive years, including a nomination for Staff Wellbeing School of the Year in 2026. Additionally, the school was recognised in May 2026 with an FFT National Attendance Award for the spring term, placing it in the top 10 percent of all FFT secondary schools in England for attendance.
