Reading Buses has launched a new survey to gather feedback from young passengers on safety, as the operator looks to include younger voices in its future service planning. The initiative, which is open until Monday 8 June 2026, was created by the newly formed Youth Panel in collaboration with Connect Reading, Leighton Park School, and other schools across Reading.
The survey is designed to help the panel prioritise improvements to the experience of young people using the local bus network. Participants are asked to share their views specifically on bus safety, with all responses remaining anonymous. Details regarding how to take part in the survey have been shared with schools throughout the area.
This engagement effort follows recent independent recognition for the bus operator. Transport Focus recently ranked Reading Buses’ operational area among the top three best in the country, noting a 92% satisfaction rate in its annual Your Bus Journey survey.
Owned by Reading Borough Council, the bus operator serves Reading and the surrounding areas, including Wokingham, Bracknell, and Newbury. As a municipal service, it does not pay dividends to private shareholders, allowing the company to invest approximately £3 million more per year back into the bus network.
The organisation is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year and recently introduced its first fully electric fleet of 24 buses. A further eight electric buses are due this summer, with the total expected to reach 49 by summer 2027.
