A community partnership in Huddersfield has been recognised for helping local families attend professional football matches. The Terriers Together Travel initiative, a collaboration between Huddersfield Town Football Club and First Bus, earned the Fan Engagement Award at the 2026 English Football League Awards ceremony held in April 2026.
The programme was created to support families in Kirklees who face financial challenges or social isolation, providing them with free match tickets and electric bus transport to the Accu Stadium. Over the course of the 2025-2026 season, more than 320 people from Batley, Dewsbury, Soothill, Thornhill, and Ravensthorpe have visited the stadium for a matchday experience.
To ensure the event is inclusive and welcoming for all, the club provides prayer facilities and halal food vendors at the stadium. During these visits, families have had the opportunity to meet midfielder Cameron Ashia and the club mascot, Terry the Terrier, who joined in for photos and autographs while handing out gifts.
The collaboration between the football club and the bus operator dates back to 2018. While the partnership originally focused on encouraging sustainable travel, it has since expanded to include these community-based social initiatives aimed at increasing access for residents in areas of high deprivation.
