The Major Oak Chorus is inviting residents of Carlton to take part in a free singing workshop on Sunday 17 May 2026. The event, titled Oakie for a Day, will be held at The Carlton Junior Academy on Foxhill Road and aims to offer a relaxed introduction to barbershop singing.

Running from 10:30am to 4:30pm, the workshop provides an opportunity for locals to learn a new song alongside current members of the chorus. No prior singing experience is needed to participate. Organisers will provide free tea and coffee throughout the day, though attendees are asked to bring their own food.

The Major Oak Chorus is a registered charity and an A Cappella male barbershop group based in Nottingham. As a member of the British Association of Barbershop Singers, the group regularly competes at a national level. The chorus already uses the school as a base for its weekly rehearsals, which take place every Tuesday at 7:15pm.

This event is part of a wider recruitment effort by the choir, which draws members from across Nottinghamshire, including Gedling, Arnold, and Carlton. The Carlton Junior Academy, which is part of the Redhill Academy Trust, is located at Garden Avenue, Foxhill Road, NG4 1QT.
