Northamptonshire Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenage girl was followed and subjected to inappropriate comments in Wellingborough town centre on the evening of 21 April 2026.
The incident took place between 9pm and 9.30pm as the teenager walked along Oxford Street in the direction of Northampton Road. Officers have described the suspect as a black man in his early 20s. He was wearing all black clothing and carrying a black backpack, and he had a pair of large headphones.
Police are asking anyone who was in the area at the time to check for footage that might assist the investigation. This includes CCTV, doorbell cameras, and dash-cam recordings. Authorities are also keen to hear from anyone else who may have been approached by the man in a similar manner.
The investigation comes as Wellingborough Town Council continues to focus on its goal of creating a safe, clean, and respectful town. The area, which currently has a reported crime rate of approximately 117.6 per 1,000 people, uses community initiatives such as the WARS app to help residents report anti-social behaviour.
