The Chelwood Foodbank Plus is expanding its community services in Brinnington by introducing a variety of new fitness, youth, and social programmes at The Lighthouse Centre. Located at the Brinnington Community Church on Northumberland Road, the charity now offers more than just emergency food support, aiming to provide a comprehensive space for residents to improve their physical health and social connections.

The new weekly schedule features activities designed for all ages, including Lighter Lighthouse fitness classes, armchair exercise sessions, and the Light Lunch on Thursdays. Younger residents can also join the Rocstars Juniors programme, held on Thursday evenings, or the Galaxy Club, which is tailored for 11 to 14-year-olds. These additions join existing community staples at the centre, such as the Wednesday drop-in cafe, a Monday morning breakfast club, and a knit and natter group.

As a registered charity, Chelwood Foodbank Plus has served the Stockport area since 2013 and remains independent of national chains, relying entirely on community donations to fund its work. Over the past 12 months, the organisation provided 2,960 food parcels to support thousands of adults and children, alongside delivering 240 beds through its bedbank initiative. The foodbank continues to operate its emergency parcel service every Wednesday between 1pm and 3pm.

These expanded offerings are part of a broader network of local support, working in partnership with organisations like Citizens Advice Bureau, Stockport Homes Group, and the NHS. By hosting these sessions at The Lighthouse Centre, the charity aims to address the needs of Brinnington residents through a holistic approach that connects vital resources with opportunities for community development and physical wellbeing.
