The Royal Air Force Battle of Britain Memorial Flight will headline the 33rd Clacton Airshow in Clacton-on-Sea this summer, bringing a historic tribute to the Essex Sunshine Coast. The event, organised by Tendring District Council, is set to take place on Thursday 27 and Friday 28 August 2026.
This year’s performance is particularly significant as it marks the 90th anniversary of the Spitfire, which first flew on 5 March 1936. The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, which operates out of RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire, maintains these aircraft as a living tribute to those who served in the Second World War. Depending on operational availability, the display is expected to feature a Spitfire, a Hurricane, and a C-47 Dakota.
Ivan Henderson, the Cabinet Member for Economic Growth, Regeneration and Tourism at Tendring District Council, expressed enthusiasm for the return of these historic aircraft. “The sound of those historic engines creates a truly special atmosphere, offering spectators a rare and unforgettable close-up view of living history,” he said. The fleet managed by the memorial flight also includes a Lancaster bomber, five Spitfires, two Hurricanes, a Dakota, and two Chipmunk training aircraft.
The Clacton Airshow remains one of the longest-running seaside airshows in the United Kingdom. Joining the memorial flight in the 2026 flying programme are the Royal Air Force Red Arrows, who are confirmed to perform on both days of the event. Spectators can also expect to see the Royal Air Force Grob Tutor T1 as part of the lineup.
