The Welcome Centre in Huddersfield has launched a public appeal for new trustees to help guide the future of the food bank and crisis support charity. The organisation, which is based at 15 Lord Street, is seeking community members to join its governing board as it navigates ongoing service demands and financial challenges.

The charity, registered under number 1151282, currently operates with 10 trustees, 12 employees, and about 130 volunteers to provide food, toiletries, and advocacy to people facing crisis across the area. For the financial year ending August 2024, the organisation reported a deficit, with total expenditure of £1,013,855 against an income of £806,226. In February 2026, the centre received a boost after being awarded three-year funding from the National Lottery Community Fund to support staffing for its advice and guidance services.

The board is particularly interested in applicants with backgrounds in marketing, communications, governance, or logistics. However, the centre welcomes interest from anyone who shares its vision, including those with personal experience of food or family crisis. The organisation also recently demonstrated its commitment to supportive care by signing the West Yorkshire Trauma Informed Charter in February 2026.

Those who join the board will be expected to attend four meetings held on Monday evenings throughout the year, as well as an annual strategy day and the annual general meeting. Trustees are also encouraged to occasionally support the charity’s operations on weekdays. Interested residents can find more information on the charity’s website.
