Watford residents are invited to refresh their wardrobes and reduce textile waste at a free clothes swap event taking place on Saturday 13 June 2026. Hosted by Watford Borough Council in partnership with Veolia, the event will be held at St Mary’s Church from 10am to 1pm.
This event is part of the South-West Herts Great Big Green Week, which is celebrating its sixth year with over 25 community activities across the region between 6 June and 14 June. The clothes swap offers a practical way for neighbours to exchange unwanted garments, supporting efforts to curb the 49 per cent of used textiles in the UK that currently end up in general waste bins. According to WRAP, the average person throws away 35 items of unwanted clothing every year.
For the first time, the Watford Repair Cafe will be on-site to provide hands-on help for those looking to fix small electrical items, clothing, and household goods. Participants can drop off their clothing items between 10am and 11am, with the swap opening from 11am to 1pm.
Any items that remain after the event will be donated to Goods for Good, a local charity that distributes essential goods to people experiencing poverty, displacement, or crisis. This initiative continues the town’s commitment to sustainable living following previous successful exchange events held across Watford.
