Bus passengers in Lymm can expect services to return to normal this weekend, as Rush Green Road reopens following over six weeks of utility works. Warrington’s Own Buses confirmed that routes 5A and 5B will resume their standard timetables and paths starting Saturday, 16 May 2026.

The road had been closed since 27 March 2026 to allow SP Energy Networks to install new electrical cabling. During this time, the bus operator was forced to divert routes via the A56, bypassing Partington and Carrington, while running a temporary shuttle bus to keep passengers connected.

The reopening comes just in time for the Lymm May Queen Festival, which takes place on Saturday, 16 May 2026. Utility companies had aimed to clear the road for the traditional community event, following weeks of travel disruption that saw some residents report commute times increasing by at least 30 minutes.

Local representatives have highlighted the strain these works placed on the community. Cllr Graham Gowland, Borough Councillor for Lymm South, has raised formal concerns regarding how utility projects are coordinated, noting that the village road network has little capacity to handle such prolonged closures. While this section of work is now complete, the broader project to upgrade 13km of electrical infrastructure across Lymm is expected to continue until August 2026.
