A new £2 million library has officially opened at Telford College in Wellington, providing students with modern study spaces and digital resources. The two-storey Haybridge Library was unveiled on Thursday, 7 May 2026, marking a significant upgrade to the campus facilities.
The facility features bookable study rooms, collaborative areas, teaching space, and more than 150 seats. Students can also access smart lockers that contain laptops available for loan, supporting independent research and group work. To further enhance the learning environment, the college invested an additional £15,000 in a new collection of books.
The official opening ceremony was performed by student council officer Connor Oswin and bestselling author Emma Cooper, who is a former student at the college. The project was designed by Bridgnorth-based Johnson Design Partnership and built by SWG Construction of Welshpool, with furniture supplied by Taskspace.
Funding for the library was provided in part by the Capital Transformation Fund, a government initiative designed to upgrade college facilities across England. Lawrence Wood, Principal and Chief Executive of Telford College, stated that the new building demonstrates the college’s ambition to provide high-quality education and training.
Councillor Shirley Reynolds, Cabinet Member for Children & Young People, Learning, Employment & Skills at Telford & Wrekin Council, attended the event. She described the library as a fantastic facility and noted it provides the type of learning environment that local young people deserve.
