A team of Year 10 students from Stockport Academy in Cheadle Heath triumphed at the Young Enterprise Greater Manchester Area Finals, taking the top spot in a regional competition that tests business skills and teamwork. The victory, announced on 8 May 2026, saw the students outperform teams from across the region.

The competition is part of the Company Programme run by the national charity Young Enterprise. This initiative provides students aged 13 to 19 the opportunity to set up and run their own real-life businesses, with each group receiving support from a business volunteer to guide them through the process.

This achievement adds to a successful period for the school under the leadership of Principal Mrs Janine McCann. Stockport Academy, which serves approximately 1,300 pupils, was rated as ‘Good’ in all areas by Ofsted in January 2025.

The school has also been recognised for its commitment to careers and extracurricular development. It currently holds the Gold-level Inspiring IAG Award for its careers advice and guidance. Additionally, in April 2026, the school was named National Educational Visits Provider of the Year at the Education Business Awards in London.
