Two men from Peterborough have been sentenced after a violent knife attack outside a butcher shop left two victims with injuries. Mohamed Moustafa, 27, and Adham Mustafa, 19, were convicted following a trial at Cambridge Crown Court and sentenced on 8 May 2026 for the assault which took place in September 2025.

The incident occurred on 16 September 2025 outside Elfaseh Halal Meat on Gladstone Street in Millfield. According to Cambridgeshire Constabulary, the two butchers used knives from their workplace to attack two men, aged 26 and 28, who had arrived at the shop to retrieve a mobile phone that Moustafa had stolen two days earlier. During the confrontation, the 26-year-old victim suffered a severe injury after a portion of his ear was nearly severed, while the 28-year-old sustained a cut to his shoulder.

Police officers arrived at the scene following multiple emergency calls and arrested both men immediately. Investigating officer Detective Sergeant Sam Moorby stated that the victims suffered both physically and mentally due to what he described as disproportionate violence. The shop itself was later the target of a deliberate arson attack on 18 September 2025, which authorities believe was connected to the same ongoing dispute.

At the sentencing hearing, Moustafa received three-and-a-half years in prison. Mustafa was given a 19-month sentence, which was suspended for 18 months, and must also complete 120 hours of unpaid work along with a 20-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

The case comes amid rising local concern regarding weapon-related crime. Figures released by the Office for National Statistics show there were 412 possession of weapon offences recorded in Peterborough in 2025, marking a 13 per cent increase compared to the previous year. This rate of increase is higher than the 5 per cent rise reported across England as a whole.
