Residents in Cheltenham can expect a cool and showery start to the week before warmer, brighter weather arrives by Wednesday. According to the Met Office, the area is currently experiencing a chilly spell due to persistent northerly winds that have kept temperatures below the seasonal average for mid-May.

Temperatures through the end of the week will remain modest, with highs of 14°C forecast for both Thursday 14 May and Friday 15 May. Gusty conditions are also expected, with wind speeds reaching 23mph on Thursday and 22mph on Friday. While UV levels will be high on Thursday, residents will be relieved to know there are currently no flood warnings or alerts in place for Cheltenham or the wider Gloucestershire area, as confirmed by the UK Environment Agency.

The unsettled weather will continue over the weekend and into the beginning of next week, with Monday and Tuesday expected to be particularly windy, seeing gusts of up to 30mph. However, a significant change is on the way as wind patterns shift to a south-westerly direction. This change will allow warmer Atlantic air to move into the region, leading to a marked improvement by Wednesday 20 May.

By mid-week, temperatures are expected to climb to 20°C with sunny intervals. Throughout this week of changing weather, pollen levels are expected to remain low across the town.

More details on the national weather outlook can be found in the latest Met Office analysis.
