The National Trust has announced that Greenway House near Galmpton will participate in this year’s Heritage Open Days festival. Visitors can explore the former holiday home of bestselling crime writer Agatha Christie for free on 12 and 13 September 2026, with the estate open from 10:30 to 16:00 on both days.

The event offers a chance to walk in the footsteps of Agatha Christie, who purchased the property in 1938 alongside her husband, the archaeologist Max Mallowan. Christie famously described the home, which sits on the banks of the River Dart, as the loveliest place in the world.

Heritage Open Days is recognised as England’s largest festival of history and culture. While the festival runs nationwide from 11 to 20 September 2026, the specific open event at Greenway does not require advance booking for general entry. Visitors are welcome to bring dogs, and children are encouraged to attend when accompanied by an adult. Although entry to the house is free for these dates, the National Trust notes that parking must be booked in advance.

This event is part of a wider series of seasonal activities at the estate. The summer programme at Greenway includes the Summer of Play, which runs daily from 18 July to 2 September 2026, as well as circus skills workshops scheduled from 3 August to 21 August 2026.
