Residents in Basildon are set to experience a dramatic shift in weather this week, moving from heavy rain to a warm and sunny stretch just in time for the Late May Bank Holiday weekend. According to the Met Office, the wet and windy conditions that marked the start of the week will quickly give way to a period of fine, settled weather.

Tuesday 19 May brings heavy rain and strong wind gusts of up to 31mph, but conditions will improve significantly starting Thursday. By Friday 22 May, temperatures are expected to reach 27°C with bright, sunny conditions. The warm trend continues through the weekend, with Saturday 23 May forecast to be the warmest day, reaching 28°C. Sunday 24 May and the Bank Holiday Monday on 25 May are also expected to remain sunny and dry, with temperatures holding around 27°C.

As the area prepares for this spell of summer-like warmth, the Met Office advises that the UV index will be high from Thursday through Sunday. Residents are encouraged to seek shade during the middle of the day, wear sunscreen, and cover up when spending time outdoors. Met Office Deputy Chief Forecaster Tony Wisson noted that the change will feel like a marked contrast from the recent cool and unsettled weather.

The arrival of warmer, drier conditions is expected to have a positive impact on local activity. According to Tourism Alliance Executive Director Eddy Leviten, improved weather typically leads to more visitors at attractions and provides a welcome boost for towns and cities across the country.
