The Love Luton partnership has launched its 2026 events programme to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Luton becoming a borough. The initiative, which is backed by local businesses, voluntary groups, and the Luton Council, aims to boost the local economy and encourage community spirit as the town marks the milestone since it was granted municipal borough status in 1876.

The programme features a variety of community activities, including the Party in the Park at Stockwood Park on 12 September 2026. Organisers expect approximately 10,000 people to attend the event, which is part of a broader series of celebrations supported by Luton Rising, the council-owned company that manages the local airport. Additionally, the Love Luton RunFest is planned for 11 October 2026, featuring 5K, 10K, and half marathon distances with sponsorship from the airport company.

The campaign is led by Chairperson Linsey Sweet, who is also the Head of Commercial Operations at Luton Rising, and Director Sinead McNamara, the Director for Inclusive Economy at the council. To highlight the economic potential of the region, the programme presentation included Gidon Freeman, the Vice President of External Affairs at Universal Destinations & Experiences. His presence provided insight into the development of the proposed Universal Studios UK theme park in nearby Bedford and how it may connect with local business opportunities.

Since its formation in 2012, Love Luton has worked to create a positive image for the town through coordinated community and business efforts. The 2026 anniversary events are intended to serve as a focal point for this ongoing work, leveraging the town’s history and current growth projects to provide tangible benefits for local residents and business owners.
